Background



Mike Schmitz has been actively designing and implementing data warehousing and analytics solutions for over 30 years. He has been an internationally recognized speaker and trainer on Data and ETL Architecture. He has synthesized the best features of Inmon, Kimball into an efficient, flexible, high performing and accessible architectural approach to designing database schemas for Business Intelligence and Analytics on both SMP and MPP platforms. He has written several articles on his approach and has co-authored one book.

After establishing a career in database management systems and working for Software AG and IBM he began specializing in Data Warehousing in 1987 with Teradata. He subsequently worked for Red Brick and Informix and served as Director of Data Warehousing for Oracles’ Mid-Market Solutions Group. He then established and ran an independent data warehousing consultancy before working for Nike as the Lead DW/BI Architect for their Global Business Intelligence Group and then T-Mobile as their Principal EDW Architect. He is currently the founder and Chief Data Architect for Database Performance LLC and Database Design Works.
